Eight Belles Earn Academic Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College STUNT had eight student-athletes named to the College STUNT Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll, announced on Friday. Senior Sophie Allen (Osceola, IN), junior Alaya Marshall (Battle Creek, MI), sophomores Madison DeCore (St. Charles, IL), Ava Friedman (Silver Spring, MD), and Miley Smith (Noblesville, IN), and freshmen Regan Joyce (Urbandale, IA), Alex Salerno (North Ridgeville, OH), and Natalie Wilson (Hudson, OH) were all honored. This is the second consecutive year earning the award for DeCore, Friedman, and Smith while it is the first for Allen, Marshall, Joyce, Salerno, and Wilson.

Nominated student-athletes must meet a cumulative grade point average above a 3.5 and have completed a minimum of 24 credits at their current STUNT institution.

Allen, the nursing major, competed in 266 rounds in her lone season with the Belles while scoring 176 points. Allen would finish the year with a power ranking of 7.519, ranking inside the top ten on the team.

Marshall, the business administration major, competed in 230 rounds after transferring from the University of Olivet in the fall. Marshall would contribute 188 points for the Belles and tallied a 5.963 power ranking.

DeCore, the nursing major, would compete in 93 rounds while bringing in 60 points for the Belles in her sophomore season.

Freidman, the speech language pathology major, competed in 226 rounds while scoring 199 points for the Belles. The sophomore finished the season with a 5.815 power ranking.

Smith, the sociology major, competed in 420 rounds while scoring 311 points for the Belles, ranking fourth on the team in both. She would also be one of six athletes to finish with a power ranking above 10, finishing with the third highest of 10.259.

Joyce, the global studies major, played in the most rounds for the Belles, competing in 452 rounds. She also ranked third on the team in points scored with 321. Joyce was also one of six athletes to finish with a power ranking above 10, finishing with the joint highest on the team with a 10.630.

Salerno, the speech language pathology major, competed in 22 rounds for the Belles while tallying 32 points in her first season with the team.

Wilson, the exercise science major, competed in 330 rounds while scoring 261 points in her first season with the program. She was one of just eight athletes to compete in 300 rounds and one of eight to score over 200 points. Wilson finished the season with a 6.185 power ranking.

The Belles took home their best finish at Nationals as they took a third place finish after a hard-fought battle with George Fox University in the semi finals. The Belles finished the season with a 13-14 overall record and took home the first ever MACC Championship after sweeping the competition for the second straight season. Saint Mary's took their highest ranking into Nationals, ranked third in the country, and went 3-2 on the weekend with both losses coming to rival George Fox.
