NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College STUNT had six members named to the College STUNT Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll, announced on Friday. Senior Lydia Alexander (Dayton, OH) joined freshmen Madison DeCore (St. Charles, IL), Ava Friedman (Silver Spring, MD), Olivia Parker (Marissa, IL), Miley Smith (Noblesville, IN), and Ryann Smith (Anderson, IN). This is the first time earning this award for all six student-athletes.
Nominated student-athletes must meet a cumulative grade point average above a 3.5 and have completed a minimum of 24 credits at their current STUNT institution.
Alexander, the Nursing major and Spanish minor, would lead the Belles in rounds played in the inaugural season, playing in 205 of 207 total rounds while ranking second on the team in total points with 111. She was a constant three quarter athlete for the Belles, playing a crucial role in every single routine as both a base and tumbler.
DeCore, the Nursing major, saw her involvement improve throughout the season as she would join the program in mid-January. DeCore would finish the season competing in 64 rounds and scoring 39 points. She started the season as a tumbler and would begin seeing time as a flyer and base as the season progressed.
Friedman, the Speech Language Pathology major, would compete in 73 rounds throughout the season while scoring 38 points. Friedman would compete mainly as a base and a tumbler for the Belles, seeing the majority of her playing time in the partner stunts and jumps and tumbling quarters.
Parker, the Neuroscience major with a concentration in Psychology, played as a consistent scoring flyer for the Belles and competed in 143 rounds and scoring 75 points. She would move into being a three quarter athlete throughout the season, stepping into new roles as the season progressed.
Miley Smith, the Sociology major, competed in 185 rounds for the Belles and scored 100 points. Both would see her rank fourth on the team. Smith would see a lot of time as both a tumbler and base, working as a three quarter athlete and playing a crucial role for the Belles.
Ryann Smith, the Sociology major, competed in 170 rounds for the Belles and would score 92 points. Both ranked sixth on the team in the inaugural season. Smith would see a lot of time in both the partner stunts and jumps and tumbling quarters, seeing time as a base for the Belles.
Saint Mary's saw their inaugural season close with a 10-9 overall record and a 5-0 record in conference, taking home their first Mid-America Central Conference title, leading them to the programs first Nationals appearance. The season saw the Belles win the programs first ever game on February 8 against Concordia University Chicago while also winning their first Nationals game against the Cougars on April 24.
