ANGOLA, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Golf took home a win in their final regular season tournament at the Trine Spring Classic on Friday. The Belles shot a 307 (+19) as a team, their lowest round of the year.
Sophomore Melanie Maier (Richmond, TX) took home her fourth collegiate individual victory after carding a two-over 74 on the afternoon. After a slow start to her day, Maier turned it on in her final 11 holes, adding four birdies to her scorecard and finishing the front nine with a two-under 34. Maier tallied back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to close out the back nine and added birdies on holes 5 and 7, birdieing three of the four par-fives on the day.
Senior Julia Lizak (Riverview, MI) finished just behind Maier with a second place finish after shooting a three-over 75. Lizak added two birdies on the afternoon on two par-five holes and eagled the 325 yard par-four 16th.
Senior Amanda Melling (East Lansing, MI) followed closely behind the two with a fifth place finish of her own after shooting a six-over 78. Melling added two birdies to her scorecard on the par-four fourth hole and the par-five seventh. Junior Colleen Hand (Royal Oak, MI) added a top-ten finish of her own with a seventh place finish after shooting an eight-over 80. Hand started her afternoon strong, after starting on the ninth hole, she proceeded to finish her first nine holes just one-over par.
Freshman Kate Plessinger (Columbus, OH) was the final competitor for the Belles, finishing the day with a 27th place finish after carding a 92 (+20). Sophomore Ella Notaro (Crystal Lake, IL) competed as an individual for the Belles and finished in 18th place after shooting an 88 (+16) on the afternoon.
