NORMAL, Ill. - Saint Mary's College Golf took home a seventh place finish at the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Invitational after shooting a 635, 312-323, as a team. The 312 in round one tied the team's low 18-hole score for the season.
Senior Julia Lizak (Riverview, MI) led the Belles with a T10 finish after shooting 79-74 (+9) on the weekend. Her second round 74 was the lowest round of her senior season and was the third lowest score of the day. Lizak led the team with five birdies on the weekend including three in round two. She birdied three of her first five holes in the second round to find herself three-under par early. Lizak held an under par score through her first 15 holes of the Sunday round.
Sophomore Melanie Maier (Richmond, TX) followed Lizak closely as she finished directly behind her with a solo 12th finish. Maier shot 76-78 (+10) on the weekend and tallied three birdies across the two rounds. Maier had a clean weekend as she finished par or better on 25 of the 36 holes.Â
Senior Amanda Melling (East Lansing, MI) followed the two with a T31 finish after shooting 78-82 (+16) on the tournament. Similar to Maier, Melling found herself finishing with a par on 22 of the 36 holes on the weekend. Junior Colleen Hand (Royal Oak, MI) rounded out the scorers for Saint Mary's after finishing T58 while shooting 79-89 (+24). Hand tallied four birdies in the first round including three straight to open the back-nine on two par-fours and a par-five.
Sophomore Ella Notaro (Crystal Lake, IL) finished out the competitors for the Belles as she finished T106 after shooting 89-94 (+39) on the weekend. Freshman Kate Plessinger (Columbus, OH) competed as an individual for the Belles, finishing with a solo 65th place finish after shooting 84-85 (+25) including a birdie on her second hole in round two, the par-four 14th.

Saint Mary's returns to action this upcoming weekend as they take on the Trine Spring Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Belles will be playing at Zollner Golf Course on Friday and Glendarin Hills Golf Club on Saturday. The Belles then prepare for post-season action at the MIAA Championships on April 24-25 at Legacy by Arthur Hills Golf Course in Ottawa Lake, MI.
